Radiation background in the Administrative building area is in average 65 microrentgens per hour, in the Shelter object's Observation pavilion area - 1,08 myllyrentgens per hour.
Controllable parameters of the Shelter object are within the limits established by Operational Regulations. According to monitoring systems data the maximal value of gamma - radiation rate inside the object has made 3403 Rontgens per hour, temperature near to Fuel Containing Materials is +29 degrees on Celsius. Exceeding of control levels of Shelter object condition parameters is not fixed.

Industrial Complex for Solid Radioactive Waste Management (ICSRM)

Designing and construction of Industrial Complex for Solid Radioactive Waste Management is financed by European Commission and Ukraine.

This Complex includes three facilities for solid radioactive waste management, closed into unified technological cycle.

ICSRM is designed for acceptance, treatment and/or disposal of SRW accumulated during operation period and those generated during ChNPP decommissioning, and operational RAW of Shelter Object.

Lot 0: Temporary storage facility for low and medium-level long-lived waste and high-level waste (LML LLW and HLW) at liquid and solid waste storage facility (LSWF).

Lot 1: Facility for removal of all-type solid radioactive waste from existing solid waste storage facility (SWSF). Work capacity is removal of 3 m3 of RAW per day; operational life cycle is 30 years.

Lot 2: Plant for sorting all-type solid radioactive waste and treatment of low and medium-level solid waste (SRTP).
Work capacity is 20 m3 of non-treated waste per day; work capacity of incineration facility is 50 kg/h (SRW), 10 kg/h (LRW); work capacity of cementation facility is 10 m3 per day; facility for LML LLW and HLW packaging is 1.5 m3 per day; capacity of temporary storage facility for LML LLW and HLW is 3,500 m3, operational life cycle is 30 years.

Lot 3: Specially equipped near-surface storage facility for low and medium-level short-lived solid waste (SESFSRW). Capacity is 55,000 m3 of waste packages; equipment operation lifetime at the stage of filling is 30 years; period of state monitoring of enclosed storage facility is 300 years.

Two first Lots are under construction on Chernobyl NPP site, and Lot 3 is constructed on “Vektor” site within Exclusion Zone.

RWE NUKEM GmbH (Germany) performs construction “turn-key”.

Work progress:
Lot 0
- All works under acting contract are completed. Contractor is provided with Certificate on Facility Acceptance. Customer is submitted with Contract on Assembly of Ventilation System to be agreed, signed by Contractor.

Lots 1&2
- All the activities under the acting contract are completed; the Contractor was provided with the Facility Acceptance Certificate.
- On January 18, 2010, the contract on “hot tests” support between the European Commission and NUKEM Technologies GmbH was concluded.
- On May 13, 2010, the State Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine (within the framework of the license for decommissioning) issued a separate authorization to the Chernobyl NPP giving the right to commission the Industrial Complex for Solid Radioactive Waste Management (ICSRM). In accordance with this document the SSE ChNPP is authorized to carry out “hot tests” of the installation for retrieval of solid radioactive waste of all categories (Lot 1), and of the Plant for solid radioactive waste sorting and processing of low- and intermediate-level short-lived solid waste (Lot 2).

The analysis of remarks under the results of operational test of Lot-1, 2 systems and equipment is underway. The work with the Contractor’s representatives on guarantee commitments pertaining to elimination of defects is in progress.

Lot 3
- Works completed in December 2007.
