On January 22, 2019, the State Nuclear Regulation Inspectorate issued a separate permit to the State Specialized Enterprise "Chornobyl NPP" Series ОД No. 33033/11 providing the right for operation of existing building constructions within the boundaries of the second generation of Chornobyl NPP, performing functions of New Safe Confinement (NSC) enclosing perimeter, after their reinforcement and sealing.

The ground for the permit issuance is a positive conclusion of the State expertise of Nuclear and Radiation Safety to the package of documents submitted by SSE Chornobyl NPP and the inspection survey performed by SNRIU from January 14 to 17, 2019. During this survey, Chornobyl NPP confirmed its ability to perform the declared activity regarding operation of these constructions.

The decision to issue a separate permit is also made in accordance with the requirements of the following documents:

    1. The normative document "Conditions and procedure for issuing separate written permits for types of activity or operations to transform the Shelter object into environmentally safe system".
    2. License for Shelter object operation Series EO No. 000233 dated December 30, 2001.

    For reference

Project "Reinforcement and sealing of the 2-nd generation Chornobyl NPP building constructions, performing the functions of NSC protective perimeter" was performed within 35 months.

In January 2018, the State Architectural and Construction Inspection of Ukraine certified the compliance with the design documentation and confirmed readiness of the completed construction of NSC enclosing perimeter, based on that Chornobyl NPP was obtained corresponding Certificate. Preparation, expertise and agreement of the package of documents, required to obtain a separate permit was carried out during 2018.

The project implementation provided a possibility to create the necessary building constructions, as well as reconstruct all available systems of the protective perimeter and Shelter Object monitoring systems, including ventilation systems, fire extinguishing and a number of others systems.
