    Chornobyl NPP has obtained certificate from SACI on ISF-2 construction completion

    On January 28, 2020, Chornobyl NPP obtained the certificate from the State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate (hereinafter: SACI) on dry type Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility (hereinafter: ISF-2) construction completion.

    The certificate is the basis for the contracts signing for supply of the commissioned facility with the necessary resources for its functioning: water, gas, heat, power, data incorporation about this facility into the state statistical reporting and registration of right of ownership of it, connection of the completed by construction facility being commissioned to the engineering networks.

    Preparation for "hot" tests is currently underway at ISF-2 within which, in accordance with the program approved by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (hereinafter: SNRIU), 186 Spent Fuel Assemblies (hereinafter referred to as SFA) will be transferred from the existing Spent Fuel Storage Facility №1 to ISF-2. After the necessary technological operations completion, SFAs will be placed in concrete storage modules at ISF-2.

    Command Staff Exercises Took Place at Chornobyl NPP

    The exercises were held to meet “Requirements for Facility Interaction Plan in Case of Sabotage” approved by Order of the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee of Ukraine dated 22 November 2010.

    The key objective of command staff exercises was to test “Facility Interaction Plan in Case of Sabotage at Chornobyl NPP”.

    For these exercises Military Unit No.3041 of the National Guard of Ukraine, ChNPP Office of Security Service Main Office in Kyiv City and Kyiv Region, Administrative Department of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, ChNPP Zone Police Division of the National Police Main Office in Kyiv Region, 11-SFRT of State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv Region, Zhytomyr Border Guard Attachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine were involved.

    The participants of the command staff exercises tested and validated the efficient performance of communication, timeliness of alert notice for the participants of the interaction plan, providing under unified leadership the viable management of the forces within interaction plan in the course of the their mission accomplishment.

    ISF-2 hand-over to Chornobyl NPP

    The Interim Spent Nuclear Fuel Dry Storage Facility (ISF-2) was handed-over from the Contractor (Holtec International) to the Employer (SSE ChNPP).

    Upon the information from Volodymyr Pieskov, the Deputy Technical Director for Operation, the Contractor has finished all construction and assembly works, and the State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate (SACI) has been provided with a request for obtaining a certificate on ISF-2 completion. Currently, the SACI Commission is working on the storage facility site.

    “According to the contract agreement, following completion of construction and assembly works, except for providing a corresponding Act, the Contractor should hold practical training in equipment management for personnel of Chornobyl NPP. This is compulsory condition since during “cold” testing of the facility performed in summer 2019 all operations dealing with ISF-2 equipment were performed by the personnel involved by the Holtec International.

    ChNPP has obtained a certificate confirming readiness for NSC CS-1 operation

    On December 5, Chornobyl NPP has obtained a certificate confirming its readiness for operation of the First Commissioning Stage (CS-1) of NSC.

    This means that the CS-1 scope of work is fully completed. It includes designing and construction of the permanent NSC foundations, the main Arch structure together with the encasement and the main crane system, the general internal NSC configuration, the solid insulating coating of the sections inside NSC, the sites, as well as designing, manufacturing, construction (installation) and commissioning of the technological life support systems and NSC condition monitoring systems and external engineering networks to connect NSC life support systems to ChNPP systems.

    In addition, within the CS-1 framework, construction and commissioning of a new ventilation stack of Chornobyl NPP second stage and old VS-2 dismantling was performed prior to the Arch sliding to the design position.
