    Head of Canadian regulatory body visited ChNPP

    On 17 August, Mrs Rumina Velshi, President of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, visited ChNPP industrial site. The visit was accompanied by representatives of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.

    The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is the body regulating the use of Nuclear Energy and Materials in Canada.

    The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate the support and solidarity of the International Community, as well as to ascertain what challenges and requirements Ukraine needs immediate help to overcome.

    ChNPP co-organized Radiation Safety Lab, the first radiation safety training in Slavutych

    On 7-11 August, the Radiation Safety Lab was held in Slavutych, a satellite town of ChNPP. The event became a platform for the experience exchange between experts in the Radiation Safety field.

    The Chornobyl NPP was a co-organiser and participant of the event, in particular, the programme included two lectures from the plant specialists. The first one was entitled "Organisation of Radiation Protection at ChNPP", where Oleksandr Novikov, Deputy Technical Director of the plant, and leading experts of the Radiation Safety Shop told about how radiation safety is ensured for personnel of one of the most complex facilities on the planet.

    United to overcome risks

    On July 17, at Chornobyl NPP a meeting was held with heads and members of foreign diplomatic institutions and missions accredited in Ukraine. The event was arranged to pursue the order of the President of Ukraine and was dedicated to implementation of the Peace Formula, in particular, the implementation of points related to nuclear and radiation safety.

    The event was attended by the heads of embassies of G7 countries and the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, heads and members of the diplomatic missions of Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Türkiye, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Brazil, India, Spain, the Republic of Korea, Egypt, the Vatican, the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Ukraine, as well as heads of relevant ministries, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, etc. Representatives of the embassies of Argentina, Australia, Chile, Indonesia, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia also joined online.

    No new puppies for the last 7 months: results of ChNPP dogs sterilisation

    In early June, a team from the Clean Futures Fund, an American organisation dedicated to social support for the communities of Ivankiv and Slavutych, as well as financial support for enterprises in the Exclusion zone, including the Chornobyl NPP, visited Ukraine.

    One of the Foundation's projects is Dogs of Chornobyl, which aims to reduce the dogs population naturally by sterilising them, thereby creating safer conditions for Chornobyl NPP and Exclusion Zone employees. In addition to sterilisation, all dogs undergo medical examinations and vaccinations.

    The last time veterinarians from the Clean Futures Fund (CFF) visited the plant site in October 2022. At that time 130 dogs, most of which live near the New Safe Confinement, passed through the hands of the veterinary team in a week.

    Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt visited ChNPP

    On June 13, ChNPP industrial site was visited by Eric Schmidt, an American businessman who is also known for being the CEO of Google from 2001 to 2011, and until 2020 - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alphabet Holding, which owns Google. In addition, Eric Schmidt has worked with the US Department of Defense on innovation, co-authored the book “How Google Works” and is the owner of the Schmidt Family Foundation.

    The purpose of the visit of the delegation led by Mr Schmidt is to learn about the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster and the effects of the occupation of the Exclusion zone by Russian troops in February-March 2022.
